Olive oil from Lleida
Raimat is located in the Lleida region where olive oil has been made for centuries.
Lleida is known to produce one of the best olive oils.The climate is very extreme and it helps to produce a very hig quality oil
Traditionaly Lleida oils are sold in bulk because are very appreciated for improving oils from other areas where the climate is not so good.That’s why it is the most expensive spanish oil.The major destination of Leida oil is for export in bulk,mainly to Italy.
Olive oil diferent qualities
Extra virgin
Is the very best. It is only olive juice, nothing else .Comletely natural with no aditives or chemical proceses.
Virgin
It is natural olive juice but lower quality. It did not reach the high standards hended to be extra virgin.
Olive oil
The olive juice that had not enough quality is processed chemicaly to take out all aroma, flavour and colour. The result is a transparent and neutral liquid called refined oil. To add some flavour and colour a small quantity of virgin oil is added to it.
When chemicaly refining an oil the acidity goes back to cero, that’s why acidity is not a good indicator of quality.
Orujo oil
It is made by the same chemical process from the leftovers of the olive mills.. This process is the same as in the refined oil and the seed oil(sunflower,soja,grape sedes etc)
Raimat land of intense flavours
Raimat is a small part of Lleida that has a very unique climate..
When my grate-grandfather bought the farm on 1914 he did it because it was famous for producing the best tasting fruits.He supposed that if fruits grown in Raimat are very tasty the wines also will be so.
Today we know the climatic reasons that makes Raimat frut to be more intense flavored. This is aplicable to all fresh fruits, fermented fruits(wine) and frut juice(oil).
The history of oil in Raimat
Raimat state is planted mainly with winegrapes.Wines produced are appreciated all over the world.
My family always worked with a lot of efford to grow the vines and whith the help of the special climate world known wines has been made.
With the same family tradition, in 1996, we started working the idea of growing olive oil. The climate is optimum for very high quality oil.
We planted the trees on 1998.
Only a small orchard combining traditional and modern technology wih only one thing on mind: producing the very best olive oil.
The folowing years has been taking care of the young trees. In 2000 we had a small crop but it did not had enough quality to be bottled so we sold the oil in bulk.
2001 is the first time we make oil, the result of all tose years work.
